What Comics Have Taught Me About Life and Why You Should Care
Many people would say that when I was growing up reading comic books was a waste of time. Why would I read comics when I could be doing something more productive?
Everybody likes to read a good story. The stories teach you lessons that may benefit you in the future. You don’t have to necessarily interpret the meaning of something
directly related to your life. However, it would be best if you looked at the message that is embedded deep within the story you are reading. In this article, I will show you why comic books are a metaphor for life.
Mutants - are born different.
In some comic books, some people have superpowers, and they are called mutants. Mutants are particular because they are different from everybody else and different from everybody else when they’re born. Most of them have some extraordinary power that is phenomenal and spectacular. There are a few mutants to have some disfigurement or some way that they look different from regular people. They can’t go out, or they can’t be seen in public without risking being ridiculed. The point is that they are different, and they have to deal with it. They have a responsibility because they can use some power. But they have to choose their life on what they want to be, right when they are born.
I think this is significant because many people are just born different. They are different from others in so many ways, and they sometimes try to fit in. Another thing is that you don’t necessarily have to fit in, and I think that’s what being a mutant in the comics teaches us about. It’s OK to be different, and you must find other people who are different from you. Or maybe you could learn the lessons you need to know by yourself. It’s OK to be different; just be yourself.
Superpowers by accident - what you should do when accidents happen
Some people in comic books get their superpowers by accident. Maybe it’s because they fell into a vat of toxic waste. There perhaps, they were the victim of an irradiated gamma radiation bomb. The point is that something happened to them by accident. They had to deal with it in their life. That’s a little bit of a metaphor if you ask me. Some people have things that happened to them. And the things you don’t necessarily have happen to you because you want them to, but it just happens to you anyway. It could be a good thing, like winning the lottery. Or it could be a bad thing like you get hit by a car. In either of these cases, something happens to you, and you have to decide who you want to be and what you want to do with your life. That’s the same with the superhero becoming a superhero or super-villains becoming evil. You must figure out what you want to do once everything is done.
Technology - what you can do if you learn
Some superheroes in comic books are interesting because they are brilliant. They don’t have big muscles, and they can’t run fast. But what they do have is the ability to use technology. A lot of modern-day superheroes in actual life use technology, like people who create these fantastic apps and become super rich. Or maybe they form some technology that doesn’t make them rich, but it impacts the world tremendously. I think those people are superheroes. And for me, I believe that if you learn a lot about something, you can make a tremendous impact on the world.
Training - mastering self-discipline
Some of my favorite superheroes in comics don’t even have any superpowers. They train hard. They train their muscles to become peak performers in some aspects of human training. Whether it be gymnastics or traditional martial arts, they train their body to be the pinnacle of human health, and it all comes from self-discipline. I like learning about characters in comic books which are good at something just because they have mastered how to use their bodies to become fighting machines. Or they are using their discipline and mind to get good at something. They are somebody that we can relate to.
I wouldn’t say that comic books are an absolute waste of time. What I would say is that you can learn a lot of lessons about how to deal with life and how to be a better person. Everybody’s heard that famous adage from the Spider-Man movies where uncle Ben says with great power comes great responsibility. Type of life lessons that you can learn from different kinds of characters. Even if you look at Spider-Man, he needed to decide what person he wanted to be. I think characters like this are relatable because he has a lot of pain that he had to endure, even though he doesn’t have the best superpowers. He had to choose what type of person he wanted to be, and he made a lot of sacrifices to balance his life. He’s relatable.
If you’re already into comic books, I hope this is useful for trying to focus on the things that might help you go through your life and learn something. If you aren’t into comic books already, there might be interesting for you to delve into comic books and learn some life lessons. You could watch the movies if you’re not interested in comic books. I hope that you enjoyed reading this.
