Why Taiwan is a Better Option for Teaching English than Japan: A Personal Experience

As a former English teacher who has taught in both Japan and Taiwan, I have come to the conclusion that Taiwan is a better option for teaching English. In this blog article, I will share my personal experience and reasons why I believe Taiwan is a better choice.

Firstly, the cost of living in Taiwan is relatively cheaper than Japan, especially when it comes to renting an apartment. In Japan, you have to pay key money, first and last month's rent, and the current month's rent, which can add up to four times the rent. On the other hand, the rental fees in Taiwan are relatively cheap, except for Taipei. This can help you save more money and have a better quality of life.

Secondly, Taiwanese people are known for minding their own business, which can be a good thing for foreigners who want to blend in and adapt to the culture without being judged. In contrast, Japanese people can be strict about following rules and have a lower tolerance for noise. This can make it difficult for foreigners who want to enjoy their freedom and have a carefree lifestyle.

Thirdly, Taiwanese people are generally more easy-going and carefree than Japanese people, who tend to be workaholics and have a high standard for adapting to the culture and learning the language. In Taiwan, you can do whatever you want within the parameters of the law without feeling the pressure of conforming to a strict societal standard.

In conclusion, Taiwan is a better option for teaching English than Japan based on my personal experience. From the lower cost of living to the easy-going lifestyle, Taiwan offers a better quality of life for foreigners who want to teach English and adapt to a new culture.
